Young Canadian Entrepreneurs
Young Canadian Entrepreneurs
My guest today on the radio show, Business in Motion, was Vivian Prokop - the CEO of Canadian Youth Business Foundation.
This charitable organization helps young Canadian entrepreneurs kick start their business and get in on the track to success.
They offer unsecrured loans of up to $15,000 to Canadian entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 34 years of age within their first year of business. The loans are given based on character and business plan not collateral. Yep - they are not like a regular bank.
Plus - and this is the real value added benefit - two years of mentoring from a successful business leader.
What an fascinating formula to launch young entrepreneurs on a journey of business success.
The Canadian Youth Business Foundation has a 95% success rate. They have helped more that 2,000 young entrepreneurs generate more than $200 million in sales and create over 12,000 jobs.
That's impressive.
If you are a young Canadian entrepreneur visit the website at www.cybf.ca to learn about applying for the program.
If you are a Canadian business leader visit the website at www.cybf.ca to learn how you might help by becoming a mentor.

Jim Estill Radio Guest

Jim Estill Radio Guest
I'm looking forward to today's guest on my radio show, Business in Motion.
Jim Estill is an interesting study for a few reasons. He is CEO of Synnex, a $1B distributor of computer equipment and supplies. He build EMJ which he sold to Synnex then accepted the role as CEO of Synnex. Impressive by itself.
He is a strong advocate of time management. In fact he wrote a book titled, "Time Leadership - Use the secrets of leadership for time management". This book offers a strategic approach to the use of your time along with all the simple and practical tips and techniques. In the true spirit of time management the book is a compact 80 pages. That makes it easy to complete and refer back to for reminders.
One more thing for now - Jim Estill writes a regular blog. How many CEO's do you know of that write blogs. Jim has been writing this blog for over three years. Find it by searching for "CEO blog" or "Jim Estill". Or click here.
Of course there is more. If you have the chance, listen in to the interview on 93.3 cfmu at 12:00 noon today. If you are not in the Hamilton area you can listen online at cfmu.
In his own words, here is his bio from his blog:
--------------------------
"I started a computer distribution company - EMJ Data from the trunk of my car in 1979. With a great team we built the company up to $350,000,000 in sales and sold to SYNNEX in Sept 2004. Now I am CEO of SYNNEX Canada. We sell about a Billion $ in computer products in Canada. We sell all the brands you would recognize like HP, Apple, Intel, Lexmark, Acer, Sony, Microsoft etc through computer resellers and retailers from Future shop and Zellers to Bob's computer store. We are also a leader in bar code and POS equipment. This blog represents my personal views and not those of SYNNEX or any other company."

Success Secret: Perspective
Success Secret: Perspective
One of the secrets of success is to be able to see other perspectives. One way of finding other prespectives is to ask goofy questions or quote goofy people - like Woody Allen.
Enjoy these quotes from Woody Allen.
------------------------------
Quotes on Perspective from Woody Allen
To you I'm an atheist; to God, I'm the Loyal Opposition.
Woody Allen
What if everything is an illusion and nothing exists? In that case, I definitely overpaid for my carpet.
Woody Allen
When I was kidnapped, my parents snapped into action. They rented out my room.
Woody Allen
Why are our days numbered and not, say, lettered?
Woody Allen
You can live to be a hundred if you give up all the things that make you want to live to be a hundred.

Success Secret: Ask good questions
Success Secret: Ask good questions
One of the secrets of success is to ask good questions.
First, ask good questions of yourself. This might be the hardest thing to do - to ask yourself good questions and to be honest with yourself.
The big question to ask yourself is, "Why?"
That is the toughest question because it will make you uncomfortable - and it will usually take you a few "whys" to get to the real answer.
The second part of this secret is to ask good questions of others - especially successful people. If you ask successful people good questions they will answer you. Listen closely and take notes.
That has been one of the best benefits of my radio show. I interview successful people and they answer my questions. The interesting thing about successful people is that they are willing to share the secrets with those who are interested.

CEO Blogger Jim Estill
CEO Blogger: Jim Estill
I met Jim Estill, CEO of Synnex, at a conference in Niagara Falls last week. We chated over dinner and a few times throughout the conference.
As the MC I introduced him for his speech on the Eight Secrets of Business Success. His speech was well delivered and well received.
As the creator and head of a $2 billion business his words carried alot of weight.
I found a few things of particular interest:
He stated that successful people are not balanced - a conclusion that I have learned from my research.
He emphasied that the little things were important - another observation of mine from studying successful people.
Even though he is the CEO of a $2 billion business he finds the time to write a regular blog.
One lesson is that busy people can write a blog if they want.
Jim Estill will be my guest on my radio show, Business in Motion on Friday, June 20, 2008. Listen in to Business in Motion on 93.3 cfmu.
